New Executive Producer for BBC’s Top Gear Quits Months Before Show’s Relaunch Posted: BBC's new Top Gear hasn't even been relaunched yet, and it is already facing a setback. Lisa Clark, the show's executive producer, is quitting just five months after being brought on by new host Chris Evans. The two had previously worked together. The sudden departure deals a blow to the show's looming relaunch in May. The popular show is facing a huge hurdle as it tries to reinvent itself after Jeremy Clarkson was fired for punching someone and co-hosts James May and Richard Hammond also quit to show their support for Clarkson. The new BBC show is also abandoning the three host format. ALSO SEE: New Amazon 'Top Gear' Reportedly has a $250M Budget BBC says Clark's departure wont affect the new show's launch date of May 8 or the rest of the production schedule. Clark came on board to replace Alex Renton, who has followed the original Top Gear trio for their new Amazon Prime show. A new executive producer will be named in the new year. Watch the BMW M4 GTS Do a Fast Lap of Nurburgring Posted: The BMW M4 GTS was one of the coolest cars unveiled this year, and now you can watch it do a fast lap on the Nurburgring. Although the commentary by the German engineer/driver is less than thrilling, as he sounds like he could just be coming out of a coma, his skillful driving is more than enough to keep you entertained. I'm actually amazed that he can stay so calm while driving one of the most infamous road courses in the world, but that's why he's a professional race driver and I'm not. ALSO SEE: 2016 BMW M4 GTS Pricing to Start at $134,200 BMW M engineer Joerg Weidinger finishes the lap in 7 minutes and 28 seconds, faster than a Porsche Carrera GT, Pagani Zonda and Mercedes SLS AMG GT. Official lap times still aren't allowed yet, but expect BMW to make an official attempt once the ban is lifted in the new year. The BMW M4 GTS is powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine with 493 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque, a big boost over the regular M4's 425-hp output. The M4 GTS can go from zero to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds and benefits from special water injection technology. Only 700 BMW M4 GTSs will be produced worldwide. Volkswagen Ditching ‘Das Auto’ Slogan Posted: Volkswagen will be ditching its "Das Auto" slogan as a part of a new strategy to help with the public relations recovery after the diesel emissions scandal. The German phrase, which simply translates into The Car, has been used in global marketing campaigns since 2007. The move to axe the slogan reflects how the automaker is changing its corporate structure and culture to be more transparent. As Volkswagen is rebuilding its image, the company hasn't revealed a new slogan yet, but has decided that a new slogan will focus on the brand's new sense of humility. A VW executive said that the Das Auto slogan cane across as pretentious and said nothing about the company's technological ambitions. Volkswagen has suffered a sharp sales drop and will begin fixing the affected diesel cars in the new year. [Source: Automotive News] Loading, please wait... |
