Alfa Romeo followed up the 2015 L.A. Auto Show debut of the Giulia sedan with an all-new crossover.

Expected to head to dealerships sometime next year, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio bowed at the 2016 L.A. Auto Show, ready to take on other luxury crossover and SUV models in what's becoming a crowded segment.

At its core, the Stelvio shares much with the Giulia sedan, including parts of its interior like the flat-bottom steering wheel and climate controls. Powertrain options are also familiar, with the standard model coming with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 280 horsepower and 306 pound-feet of torque. Like the Giulia though, the Stelvio will offer a high-performance Quadrifoglio variant sporting a 2.9-liter turbo V6 developed by Ferrari to push out 505 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque.

The luxury crossover will come standard with all-wheel drive but will be able to route 60 percent of the engine's torque to the front wheels for enhanced grip and driving dynamics. Also available will be a torque-vectoring differential. Expect pricing information to be announced closer to the vehicle's launch.

Jaguar had a pleasant surprise for everyone attending the 2016 L.A. Auto Show.

Making its debut was the Jaguar I-Pace electric SUV, and although it's a concept, the British automaker tends to unveil concept cars that closely resemble production models. The I-Pace is no different, and it could be the best-looking electric vehicle yet. The company claims it will be able to go zero-to-60 mph in about four seconds while the 90-kWh lithium-ion battery will offer an estimated range of 220 miles.

It appears Jaguar will ensure the I-Pace will provide adequate range, but instead of chasing 300 or more miles, it will focus on performance and styling instead. The concept is all-wheel drive with twin-electric motors pushing a combined output of 400 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, the same amount of torque as the Jaguar F-Type SVR.

The production Jaguar I-Pace is expected to make its debut late next year before heading to dealerships in the second half of 2018.

Volkswagen Plans to Cut 30K Jobs to Save Money

Posted:

The Volkswagen brand plans to get rid of roughly 30,000 jobs by 2021 in a bid to save about $3.9 billion annually.

According to Reuters citing sources close to the matter, Volkswagen will let all of the employees go through attrition, as the company has agreed to no forced layoffs until 2025.

This is a major step in Volkswagen's plan to help it restructure after the massive diesel emissions scandal which cost the automaker at least 18 billion euros and its reputation. The cuts should help Volkswagen save $3.9 billion annually, helped by 23,000 jobs cut in Germany alone.
