Want some more power with your luxurious Swedish family crossover? Polestar has you covered with its Performance Optimization package that's now available on the Volvo XC90.

The D5 and T6 Drive-E equipped models of Volvo's family friendly crossover are eligible for the performance upgrade that improves engine output, throttle response, shift speed, shift precision and off-throttle response.

Polestar, and its 20-years of motorsports experience helps to make Volvo's cars more engaging, and is the Swedish brands in-house tuning company. Most notable from this optimization is the T6 engine that gets boosted to 334-hp from 320.

"What we strive for when designing and fine-tuning our race cars is to create a completely balanced package," said Robert Dahlgren, racing and development driver for Polestar Cyan Racing. "And this is exactly what we have focused on with the new generation Polestar optimizations for the XC90. Drivability is everything in racing; it is about having power available when you need it and to be in control. It is the very same thing when driving a road car actively, making this an essential part of what we have created with the new Polestar optimization."

Hyundai Teases N Performance Brand In Track-Focused Video

Hyundai is launching a performance brand simply named N, and this video shows just how much work goes into delivering track-proven performance for street cars.

The video focuses on two cars, the RM15 Concept, which is essentially the mid-engine Veloster you see above. Also seen in the video is a camouflaged Elantra GT, which is likely spiced up with all the prototype performance parts Hyundai is getting ready for primetime.

The video is narrated by N Performance Brand head Albert Biermann, former engineering chief of BMW's M Brand. Biermann explains that Hyundai is taking everything it learns in motorsports, including their World Rally Championship team and putting it to the street cars.

Lexus Not Sold On Made-In-China Vehicles

Posted:

Made-in-China has always had a rough reputation when it comes to quality and Lexus isn't helping things.

According to a report by Bloomberg, the Japanese automaker will continue making cars in Japan, despite incurring significant cost penalties for importing its vehicles into China, rather than making them in China.

"There's too much quality risk in China to produce there," said Takashi Yamamoto, executive vice president of Lexus International. "When that difficulty is gone, maybe local production is likely to be launched in China, maybe several decades later," he said.

In comparison, Lexus' biggest rivals, including BMW, Mercedes and Audi are all manufacturing cars locally for the Chinese market, which helps keep their prices down compared to Lexus vehicles.

The view that made-in-China cars aren't as well built goes against recent studies that have found that Chinese built cars are improving in terms of quality. Then again, Lexus has always held the quality benchmark and it credits its Japanese manufacturing facilities as part of that reputation. Only two Lexus plants exist outside of Japan, a newly opened Kentucky plant that manufacturers the ES sedan, while a plant in Ontario makes the RX  crossover.

Lexus suggests that China's lack of experience in building vehicles is an indicator of less than stellar quality. On the other hand, the company hasn't experienced the same growth in the country as its German rivals, chiefly because its cars are so expensive due to the import taxes.

"Made-in-Japan guarantees quality," said Yamamoto. "If you shift to made-in-China, there could be some peripheral issues accompanied with this."

Top 5 Trucks of the 2015 SEMA Show

Posted:

Once again there are so many great trucks at the SEMA Show that we could put together a top 50 list, but we won't subject you to that.

We've sorted through the whole lot, to put together the top 5 trucks of the 2015 SEMA Show.

The list kicks off with this 1940s International one a half ton flatbed which keeps its original looks with plenty of patina. Big rig style comes courtesy of two massive custom exhaust stacks, made to look like support pillars for the cage on the front of the custom flat bed deck.

And to cap off its badass style, a pair of miner's picks are fit onto the mudflaps.

SEMA-Trucks-Gallery-70

What would a list of SEMA trucks be without something completely over the top and this truck is exactly that. This Ford F-550 sitting in the Fusion bumpers booth is a ridiculous way to show off just bumpers, but it does get plenty of attention.

2015 SEMA Show Coverage

With six doors, three axles, rear-wheel steering and a full Baja-prepped dune buggy sitting on the back, this rig looks ready for action. And to cap it off, the headlights pay homage to old glory, because America.

2016-Chevy-Trailboss-3.0-07

Chevy's Colorado Trail Boss is already on sale, but it doesn't quite have all the right stuff to make it a real off-road performer. But this Trail Boss 3.0 Concept changes that.

Many of the parts on this are available on the production truck, like the Goodyear DuraTrac tires, 17-inch wheels,  a G80 locking rear differential, an illuminated Chevy bowtie, rocker bars, a sport bard with LED lights and more.

But what makes the 3.0 special is a 2-inch suspension lift and the lack of that rear front air dam which just gets in the way out on the trail. Come on Chevy, build this truck.

2016-Honda-Ridgeline-Baja-Race-Truck-05

Honda is headed to this year's Baja 1000 with this truck, the Ridgeline Baja Race Truck. The brand says that the body on the race truck is teasing what we can expect when the 2017 Ridgeline is revealed. But the similarities between the two end there.

Powering this racer is a twin-turbo V6 engine that puts out over 550 hp, mated to a sequential race transmission. To help it power through the desert, Fox racing shocks, Rugged General Grabber Tires and plenty of LED lights have been added.

Good luck out there in the desert Honda.

Nissan-Titan-Triple-Nickel-13

Trucks lifted to sky high heights and slammed right to the ground are common sights at the SEMA show. What isn't a truck that's going to attempt to crack a land speed record, not to mention with a big diesel engine.

This Nissan Titan has been nicknamed Project Triple Nickel as a nod to the stock truck's Cummins diesel engine that make 555 lb-ft of torque. But this is no stock truck.

Nissan has lowered it and fit it with disk wheel covers, a specially designed air dam, a brushed-nickel wrap and a safety parachute out back to make sure this beast can stop. The Titan will compete in the diesel truck class, looking to crack the current record of 191 mph. It will also take a swing at the FIA class A-III-9 to break the current record of 115 mph.

Nissan didn't provide a timeline for when we can expect to the Triple Nickle actually racing, but there's no doubt it will be an impressive sight to watch this big diesel rig speeding across the salt.

Ringbrothers 1965 Carbon Fiber Mustang the Best Restomod at SEMA

Posted:

Last year at the 2014 SEMA Show, Ringbrothers impressed us with its custom Chevelle. This year, it has blown our minds.

Starting with a 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback, the seasoned veterans gave it a treatment like no other with an all carbon fiber body. The builders have nicknamed the project "Espionage" and we would be bold enough to say that it would be a privilege for James Bond to get behind the wheel. That's because the Rings didn't want to just make a "carbon copy" of a 1965 Fastback, they wanted to take the iconic shape and widen it two inches on each side along with countless other details that make it uniquely Ringbrothers.

Covering the exquisite carbon fiber body work is a custom BASF Glasurit 90-Line Waterborne paint shade that has been aptly named "Spy Green."

As beautiful as the custom Mustang Fastback is, it's what lies underneath the hood that really has our attention. The folks at Wegner Motorsports contributed to the project with a 427-cubic inch LS7 engine outfitted with a massive Whipple supercharger to help churn out 959 horsepower and 858 pound-feet of torque. The powerplant is mated to a six-speed Tremec T56 transmission, while all the ponies are sent to the rear wheels through a custom driveshaft into a Ford nine-inch rear end. The header and exhaust system was custom built by Ringbrothers that exit out to Flowmaster Super 44 Mufflers.

Now, no project would be complete if it simply looked stunning and packed a ton of power. Braking performance has been enhanced with Baer 14-inch brake discs and 6S calipers all around. Custom forged wheels from HRE were then bolted on, wrapped with Nitto Invo rubber sized 295/35/18 in the front and 345/30/19 in the rear.
