2017 Cadillac XT5 Earns Top Safety Pick+ From IIHS Posted: Cadillac's new crossover has earned top safety marks from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The 2017 Cadillac XT5 earned good ratings in all five of the institute's crashworthiness evaluations, and when equipped with optional front crash prevention, it earns a superior or advanced rating, depending on which package is selected. When equipped with both Front Automatic Braking and Low-Speed Front Automatic Braking, the Cadillac XT5 earns a superior rating for front crash prevention. During the 12-mph IIHS track test, it consistently avoided a collision, while in the 25-mph test, the XT5 avoided a collision in four out of the five runs and slowed, but didn't completely stop in the fifth. SEE ALSO: 2017 Cadillac XT5 Review The 2017 Cadillac XT5 equipped with Low-Speed Front Automatic Braking only earns an advanced rating. It avoided a collision in the 12-mph test and the impact speed was reduced by 9 mph in the 25-mph test. In order for a vehicle to qualify for an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award, it must earn good ratings in the small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests. The vehicle must also have an available front crash prevention system that earns an advanced or superior rating. Discuss this story on our Cadillac Forum Loading, please wait... |
Chevy Bolt Can go 255 Miles in the City, 217 on Highway Posted: A detailed breakdown of the Chevrolet Bolt's range has been released by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), revealing that the all-electric car can travel 255 miles in the city and 217 on the highway. In combined driving both in the city and on the highway, the Bolt is rated to travel 238 miles on a single charge. The city range figure of 255 miles is especially impressive considering that a Tesla Model S 60D is rated to travel only 221.1 miles in the city and costs at least $66,000 before incentives. Chevy also recently announced Bolt pricing, which comes in at $37,495 before incentives. SEE ALSO: 2017 Chevrolet Bolt To Cost $37,495 The 217-mile highway range for the Bolt is where the car falls short compared to Tesla, thanks in large part to its 0.32 cd rating. Aerodynamic efficiency was sacrificed for interior space and practicality with the Bolt, resulting in a lower highway range. Every Model S available manages to outdistance the Bolt on the highway, save for the Model S 60 which goes 214 miles. It's also worth noting that the EPA does not include Chevy's regen-on-demand paddles when testing, which the American automaker says can increase range by up to 5 percent in stop-and-go traffic. Rhe EPA says that with a 240V charger, the Bolt will take 9.3 hours to fully recharge. Discuss this story at our Chevy Bolt Forum Loading, please wait... |
