2015 Mustang Outsells Camaro in November Posted: Sales of the new Mustang are off to a good start. Not surprisingly, the 2015 Ford Mustang has increased its sales by 62 percent compared to the same month last year, moving 8,728 units in November 2014. That means that Ford sold about double the amount of 2015 Mustangs as Chevy sold 2015 Camaros last month. SEE ALSO: 2015 Ford Mustang Review Ford also revealed people's buying decisions when it comes to the new car. The American brand says that 52 percent of buyers are choosing the 435-hp 5.0-liter V8 in the Mustang GT. The other buyers are split right down the middle with 24 percent of customers choosing the 3.7-liter V6 and 24 percent taking the new turbocharged I-4 EcoBoost engine. So far, 20,000 new Mustang fastback have been built and shipped around the U.S. and Canada and preparations to begin shipping overseas are now underway. Discuss this story at our Ford Mustang Forum |
Route 66 Charges up for Electric Cars Posted: In the near future, people who drive electric cars will be able to get their kicks on Route 66. The Route 66 revival is going full speed ahead in Illinois and the state government is investing $1 million to install charging stations across a 300-mile section between Lake Michigan and the Mississippi River border with Missouri. That section will be called the Illinois Route 66 Electric Corridor and will help facilitate electric vehicle travel between the cities of Chicago and St. Louis. At least eight cities will get one public charging station that will be accessible from Route 66: Plainfield, Dwight, Pontiac, Normal, Lincoln, Springfield, Carlinville and Edwardsville. Each charging site will have at least one DC fast charging station with either CHAdeMO or CCS connectors as well as one 240-volt level 2 station. Installation will begin this month and Illinois officials hopes to have the entire network operable by summer 2015. Several automakers are also backing the effort, including BMW, Mitsubishi and Nissan. [Source: Green Car Reports] |
McLaren Special Operations Adds ‘Defined Division’ to Bespoke Program Posted: McLaren buyers now have a lot more options to look through when shopping for a new car. McLaren Special Operations (MSO) has announced a new range of options for the 650S and the Asia-only 625C, offered through the new 'MSO Defined ' division. This addition brings MSO up to five different tiers of customization options, each one offering a different level of services to customers. Opt for the MSO Defined category, and the 650S is fitted with a full aero kit along with carbon fiber interior components. A carbon fiber rear diffuser and extended side blade are also available, while the entire rear deck and mirror arms are made from the lightweight material. For those who love F1 racing, the car comes with a Formula 1 inspired instrument cluster including F1-style shift lights. SEE ALSO: McLaren P1 GTR Debuts at Pebble Beach Moving up from the MSO defined category there is MSO Bespoke which builds one-off models; MSO Limited, putting together limited-edition models; MSO Heritage, which restores historic cars for the brand and finally the MSO Programmes which builds, maintains and prepares special track-only cars, like the P1 GTR, for exclusive track days at F1 circuits around the world. Mercedes GLE63 AMG Spied Winter Testing Posted: It was just days ago that the Mercedes GLE was caught testing without any camouflage, and now we have a new set of photos, this time of the go-fast AMG variant. The GLE is looking to steal sales from the BMW X6, both of which claim to be 'coupe' styled crossovers. Our photos reveal the new GLE63 AMG, which has the BMW X6 M directly in its sights. It is expected to use the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 found in AMG's new GT sports car. In the standard GT, that engine makes 462 hp, but that bumps up to 510 in the GT S model. To properly compete with the X6 M's 567 hp, the GLE will likely use the higher output version. SEE ALSO: Mercedes GLE Coupe Spied with Little Camo For those of you still wondering what a GLE is, Mercedes recently renamed all of its SUVs and the current M-Class became the GLE. Expect the new GLE to make its official debut in the coming months, possibly at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show in January. Discuss this story at our Mercedes-Benz forum |

LaFerrari FXXK Revealed As a Track-Only 1,036-HP Hypercar Posted: Have a thing for evil-looking cars? Ferrari has your latest fix. The LaFerrari FXXK is a track only special that uses the standard car's V12 mated to an electric drivetrain for power, although this insane track variant gets a 101 hp boost bringing the total output to 1036 hp. That is 848 hp from the naturally aspirated 6.3-liter V12 and an additional 187 hp from the electric motor. Torque sits at "over 664 lb-ft." Ferrari didn't release 0 to 60 mph information, but odds are this car will beat the standard LaFerrari's 2.9-second sprint. Special components included on the FXXK engine include new camshafts, redesigned intake manifolds and mechanical tappets replacing the traditional hydraulic units. If you like a quiet ride, avoid this car at all costs. Ferrari says that the silencers on the exhaust have been eliminated, presumably for weight savings and more power. SEE ALSO: Ferrari 458 Might be to 'Speciale' For You Aerodynamically, Ferrari managed to add 50 per cent more downforce over the standard LaFerrari with 1,190 pounds of downward force at 133mph. Additions that made this possible include a new double-deck spoiler at the front of the car that uses vertical fins to channel the air better over the rear of the car, a massive rear diffuser and the most obvious upgrade, those two small rear wings over the back haunches. In slow speed situations when the car's main spoiler is not deployed those small wings act as guide vanes, though once the speed picks up and the rear spoiler deploys they channel air directly to the wing. Four different drive modes are available for the car's hybrid system, qualify (the most extreme setting), long run, manual boost and fast charge. To help you manage all that power, Ferrari also updated is slide slip angle control system to help keep the car on the race track. Information on price and availability has yet to be released, but it's safe to say that this car will be limited to probably about 30 units, and each will be very expensive.
