2016 Cadillac CTS-V to Debut in Detroit Posted: Cadillac is getting ready to reveal the latest iteration of the CTS-V at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show. The new car will mark the pinnacle of performance for the Cadillac lineup, sitting above the recently revealed ATS-V. Details on the car are still relatively sparse, although a recent set of spy photos showing the CTS-V testing offered us some hints. SEE ALSO: 2016 Cadillac CTS-V Spy Photos In the photos, it appears that a pair of intercoolers are fitted behind the front grille of the car, suggesting that it will be turbocharged and not supercharged like the previous CTS-V. One powerplant possibility is the twin-turbo 4.5-liter V8 that was revealed in the Elmiraj concept. Whatever the engine, the car needs to make at least 550 hp to compete with its German rivals, the BMW M5 and Mercedes E63 AMG. Make sure to come back to AutoGuide.com for all the details on the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V when it is revealed on January, 13. Discuss this story on our Cadillac forum |

Drunk Driving Deaths Declined in 2013 Posted: Drunk driving deaths in the U.S. were on the decline in 2013 according to new data by the Department of Transportation. "We're making progress in the fight against drunk driving by working with law enforcement and our safety partners and by arming people with useful tools, such as our new SaferRide app," NHTSA deputy administrator David Friedman said. "This holiday season, don't make the selfish and deadly choice to drink and drive." The statistics were released today in conjunction with the announcement of a smartphone app aimed at discouraging drunk driving that kicks off a nationwide holiday crackdown on drunk driving. The app is available on Android devices starting today, but NHTSA didn't announce compatibility with other devices. NHTSA hopes the program will curb drunk driving by allowing users to call a taxi or phone a friend for a ride home while sharing their location. |
GM Ignition Switch Death Toll Still Rising Posted: The number of people who will be compensated by General Motors because of faulty ignition switches in small cars is still climbing. As of Tuesday, 42 deaths, seven severe injuries and 51 other injuries have been deemed eligible for payment by lawyer Kenneth Feinberg, who is managing GM's victim compensation fund. In total, the victim compensation fund has received 51 claims for death, 156 for severe injuries and 1,919 for less-serious injuries requiring hospitalization. SEE ALSO: GM Ignition Switch Claims Deadline Extended GM hired Kenneth Feinberg to look after the compensation fund, for which $400 million has initially been allocated. Feinberg has handled other high-profile compensation cases, such as those given in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks and the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The issue stems from a faulty ignition switch which can allow the car's key to turn involuntarily, causing the engine to shut off. If this happens, the vehicle will lose power steering and the airbags will not function. GM is currently in the process of fixing all of the affected vehicles. Before they can be fixed, the company recommends that those driving these vehicles take everything off of their key ring, so that no unnecessary weight is being put on the ignition switch. Reading Mean YouTube Comments: AutoGuide 2014 Posted: None of us at AutoGuide.com imagined that our jobs would involve memorizing lines or standing in front of a camera. None of us except for Craig Cole, who served as the senior vice president of the International Thespian Society from 1957 to 1961. But that's not the point. We all sort of fell into filming video reviews and it's been a learning process for each of us that we thoroughly enjoy. One of the first lessons we all learned after appearing on camera is that you need a thick skin. Online anonymity frees people to say some of the meanest, most hateful things they can imagine with unabashed candor. We see most of the comments on our channel and yes, we generally think they are hysterical. That's why we decided to cap off 2014 with a video in the spirit of Jimmy Kimmel's "Celebrities Reading Mean Tweets" series. We aren't celebrities by any stretch of the imagination, but some of the stuff people day about us really is funny. And sometimes deeply hurtful. Happy holidays from everyone at AutoGuide.com.
