Perhaps most impressively, it does so without the help of any major new car debut and this year is no exception. But that doesn't mean you should write it off. BMW M4 MotoGP Pace Car Features Water Injection System Posted: BMW has introducing an M4 featuring new engine technology. While it's nothing groundbreaking, the M4 MotoGP pace car sports a water injection system designed to cool the air going into the intake side of the engine, which is especially important on a turbocharged engine. According to the German automaker, the water injection system is made "to increase the performance and reduce the consumption of combustion engines." SEE ALSO: 2016 BMW Alpina B6 xDrive Gran Coupe Packs 600 HP As a partner of MotoGP since 1999, BMW will be touting its M4 on the track this year as a pace car outfitted with carbon fiber goods, Recaro racing seats with Schroth harnesses, LED lights on the roof, a fuel pump system for overseas transport, coilover suspension and a BMW M Performance titanium exhaust. The fleet of official MotoGP vehicles for the 2015 season will actually consist of six different BMW M and BMW M Performance models. Joining the M4 will be the M3, M6 Gran Coupe, M5, M550d xDrive and X5 M. Both the M3 and M6 Gran Coupe will also serve as safety cars while the safety officer will take to the track int he M5. Mitsubishi GC-PHEV Concept Video, First Look Posted: Mitsubishi is using the 2015 Chicago Auto Show to give a glimpse of its future. The Japanese automaker is showcasing the GC-PHEV concept, a hybrid full-size crossover with styling cues that will influence future Mitsubishi models. Powering the GC-PHEV is a preview of a possible next-generation hybrid powertrain from Mitsubishi, featuring a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine mated to an eight-speed transmission and an electric motor for a combined system output of 335 hp. 2015 Chicago Auto Show Coverage In concept form, the company has revealed that the GC-PHEV is capable of achieving up to 35 mpg and its electric-only driving range is over 25 miles. The concept is also equipped with all-wheel drive and Mitsubishi says the GC-PHEV is capable of delivering up to 1,500 watts of electricity when the battery and gas tank are full. Kia Trail’ster Concept Video, First Look Posted: Is the Kia Soul really off-road capable? The Korean automaker is testing the idea with its Trail'ster concept at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show, adding an extra 2.5 inches of ground clearance to the boxy, compact car. Under the body are aluminum skid plates for protection while Pirelli Winter Carving tires has this all-wheel drive Soul driving on snow and mud with ease. 2015 Chicago Auto Show Coverage Under the hood is a 1.6-liter turbo four-cylinder engine with 185 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque that sends power to the front wheels while an electric motor is used to power the rear wheels under acceleration while adding regenerative braking capabilities. Combined, the total system output for the hybrid powertrain is 220 hp and 285 lb-ft of torque. Another interesting aspect of the Kia Trail'ster concept is its retractable cloth panel on its roof, offering some of the characteristics you'd expect from a convertible. 2016 Honda Pilot Video, First Look Posted: Honda is trying to dissociate itself from the terms boring and mundane. At the 2015 Chicago Auto Show, the Japanese automaker debuted its latest Pilot model with sleek styling that departs from the previous generation's boxy look. The third-generation Pilot offers more cargo space, greater performance and improved fuel economy than its predecessor while being three inches longer and is up to 300 lbs lighter. 2015 Chicago Auto Show Coverage Under the hood, a 3.5-liter V6 with direct fuel injection gives the SUV 250 hp and 253 lb-ft of torque while Variable Cylinder Management shuts half of the cylinders down when full power isn't needed. Two transmissions will be offered with the 2016 Pilot with a six speed replacing the current five-speed transmission. Higher trim models will come with an all-new nine-speed gearbox from ZF. 2016 Acura RDX Video, First Look Posted: The 2016 Acura RDX is packed with new-generation technology to carry it into the future. Sporting a nine-speed automatic transmission, the 2016 Acura RDX is equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 boasting 279 hp and 252 lb-ft torque along with cylinder-deactivation technology to help enhance fuel economy. Along with changes to the powertrain, the RDX also got its styling revamped with LED projector headlights, LED taillights, new front and rear ends and new wheels to choose from. 2015 Chicago Auto Show Coverage Inside, new standard features include heated front seats and second-row air vents while the Advance Package is new for 2016, adding front and rear parking sensors, automatic windshield wipers, remote start and AcuraWatch, the brand's suite of driver-assistance technologies.
