Lamborghini Aventador SV Gets Tougher, Tighter and Lighter

If you follow my reviews, you might know that I'm an unabashed fan of the Lamborghini Aventador. But this year, Lambo is bringing out the Superveloce, a new version that marks significant performance enhancements.

For starters, the Avantador SV is about 110 lbs lighter than the Aventador. Lamborghini also massaged it's 6.5-liter V12 to make an extra 50 HP for a total of 750 distributed between the rear wheels via a Haldex permanent AWD system. In case you're wondering, it still uses Lamborghini's seven-speed ISR single-clutch automated manual transmission.

Full power comes on at 8400 rpm and torque sits at 509 lb-ft at 5500 rpm.

But before we geek out on car tech too much, take a second and have a look at this thing.

It gets a new front fascia, a big three-way adjustable rear wing and a new exhaust that all make it impossible to miss the fact that this thing goes farther than a normal Aventador. So what else is new? This model packs a new adaptive suspension that will individually adjust wheel damping during a corner.

It also has a totally bespoke exhaust to reduce back-pressure to let the revised engine howl. This model also comes with the electromechanical dynamic steering system that debuted on the Huracan, but tuned specifically for this model.

Gripe if you will about that, but this is a good thing. I mean, I've got some serious pipes and you can take it from me, the front wheels feel heavy at slow speeds.

But even if you don't have noodles for arms, the new steering is good because it helps save weight. And speaking of weight savings, you should know that the infotainment system is gone along with the standard seats and door panels, which are both now made of carbon fiber.

When you're not looking at the all-new TFT gauge cluster, the cabin is filled with numerous other treats. Lamborghini pioneered a new Carbon Skin material that's used throughout the cabin, including the headliner. The company says its soft to the touch but very "hard-wearing." Though if you'd rather see the carbon fiber structure of this 3,363 lb supercar you can do that too with the car's monocoque visible along the center tunnel and in other areas throughout the cockpit.

Statistics on a car like this are as important as how it looks and the SV model does not disappoint. Lamborghini claims a 0-62 mph time of just 2.8 seconds and a top speed of over 217 mph!

Ready to hit Rodeo drive? US pricing hasn't been announced yet, but European pricing starts at about 327,000 Euros before VAT and delivery here will begin this spring.

Lexus RC To Get Turbo Four-Cylinder

Lexus is looking to expand its range of vehicles equipped with turbocharged engines, with two other cars set to receive the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine from the NX 200t compact crossover.

Making 235-hp and 258 lb-ft of torque in the NX, that engine has already been slated to be put under the hood of the IS sport sedan. Additionally, according to a report from Motor Trend, the RC Coupe could also see the same engine.

Some are speculating that 200-hp 2.5-liter V6  that is currently found in both cars will continue on in a base trim model, while the turbo four will slot in between the base model and the 3.5-liter V6 engine. It offers more power and better fuel economy than the smaller of the V6 options.

With all of the German competition sticking turbocharged four cylinders in their cars, it makes a ton of sense for Lexus to offer the same direction. The Japanese brand also features the torque rating as the 2.0-liter-turbocharged unit found in the BMW 328i/428i, setting it up perfectly for comparisons.

New GM Wagon On The Way

The much loved wagon variant of the Cadillac CTS is on its way back, but there are reports that it could debut with a different badge on its grille.

Yes, GM is considering adding a wagon back to its lineup, one that would be a spiritual successor to the Cadillac CTS sport wagon sold between 2008 and 2013. While the Cadillac brand may be a logical fit, a report from Motor Trend has GM VP and product chief Mark Reuss suggesting that such a car may not be branded a Cadillac.

That leaves the Buick and Chevrolet brands as the possible destinations for such a station wagon. Reuss also hinted that the mystery wagon could include both manual transmission and diesel engine options.

When the ATS was was first revealed, Cadillac mentioned that a diesel wagon version will be on the way for European customers. However, since then, the company has seen several changes in terms of leadership and brand direction. Currently, a wagon version of the Chevrolet Cruze is available in overseas markets.

Ford Trolls Ferrari at the Geneva Motor Show

Attendees of this year's Geneva Motor Show will be greeted by some cheeky humor courtesy of Ford.

After launching its new GT supercar at the Detroit Auto Show the new 650-hp carbon fiber beast has made its way across the Atlantic to go on display in Ford's booth in Switzerland. To announce it's coming, Ford has erected a large billboard on the outside of the auto show.

A show known for its supercars, the GT won't look out of place alongside debuts from the likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini

The wording is a direct shot across the bow of Ferrari, which launched its new supercar, the egotistically named LaFerrari, at this very show just 12 months ago.

Unlikely rivals, Ford and Ferrari do, however, have a tumultuous history. In the 1960s the Ford Motor Company attempted to buy Ferrari but was rebuffed at the last minute. The move enraged Henry Ford II who, as the story goes, commissioned the original GT40. That car then went on to trounce Ferrari at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans sweeping the podium.

The new Passat is based off the company's acclaimed MQB architecture, the same platform that spawned the 2013 winner of this accolade, the Volkswagen Golf. Judges were impressed by the new Passat's improved refinement, interior space and build quality.
